JOB SCOPE: Working under limited supervision, performs billing and coding activities. Assigns appropriate billing codes to patient accounts and ensures accurate and completeness of claims. This position reports to the Business Office Director. Supports and adheres to The US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily review & verification of reported charges to ensure accurate ICD, HCPC, and CPT codes are captured in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines.
  • Works with leadership and charge entry staff to ensure correct charge and/or quantity amounts
  • Utilize reports to assist with coding related trend identification
  • Scrub & extract hospital oncology and gynecological charges through system interface
  • Complete Coder assigned tasks within the billing system
  • Ensure completeness of claims, review for missing modifiers, ensure complete and accurate ordering/render MD info on claims, review/correct duplicate claims and bundled charges.
  • Provide coding and billing education in specialty specific categories, Conduct face-to-face education and support, Researches, prepares, develops and delivers subject matter material to present to revenue cycle staff via on-site, web based, and other methods of training.
  • Educate and provide guidance related to ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS coding systems.
  • Collaborate, coordinate and participate in other projects and duties as needed or requested
  • Communicate with site clinical staff as needed to complete any of the tasks above
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of AAPC Certified Professional Coder Exam required/ CPC Required
  • Minimum three years of medical billing or coding experience.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and MicroSoft (Office Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel) required.
  • Prior oncology experience preferred.

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Work will involve in-person interaction with co-workers and management and/or clients. Work may require minimal travel by automobile to office sites.
